TS-12008 BROWN RECLUSE SINGS- THE SOFT SKIN 12”EP

Ryan Todd came by the store one breezy afternoon, looking for a Debbie Deb 12" – could have been "When I Hear Music", or maybe it was "Lookout Weekend" – anyway, we got to talking about Freestyle and pretty soon, as these things go, we were comparing notes on pre-Oasis, Creation era Brit pop – Jasmine Minks, the Loft, Biff Bang Pow – when Margot Guryan's name came up, and he remarked, "this band I'm in wrote a song about her”, so, of course, we had to hear ‘em, and they're called Brown Recluse Sings– you know, that scary little fiddleback spider that hides in shoes, with the potent venom that can kill (though, truth be told, a quarter-hit acts as an entheogenic and will actually give you a pleasant buzz) – and the more we thought about it, if you mash-up Freestyle, Creation records, Postacard records, Margot Guryan (& bump it up a notch with a dash of Curt Boettcher), that's a pretty fair description of what you're in for with a bite of Brown Recluse Sings– sunny Saturday-morning songs with an Anglophilic stroll, a small sacrifice on the altar of the fun-god, and nothing but blue skies.
